Navajo Yei Rug c.1905-1915 with Publication
This is an extraordinary authentic original Navajo Native American pictorial Yei throw rug from circa 1905-1915. The rug is pictured in full color and described in the 1991 book publication, Navajo Pictorial Weaving 1880-1950 Folk Art Images of Native Americans by Tyrone Campbell and Joel and Kate Kopp page 114 figure 159. The rug is described as being a pictorial throw, handspun with each right angle being created by the whirling-logs cross contains a familiar sand painting image. The rug shows a sacred corn plant, male lighting, a sand painting bar, and a female Yei all being enclosed on three sides by a Rainbow Guardian. The piece was from the collection of America Hurrah. The rug shows a fine, well preserved condition with a tightly woven wool knot and mineral colors such as white, black, red, orange, yellow, and blue. Measures overall 34 1/2" x 26". Immensely scarce document authentic Yei rug in very rare early age. The lot is also accompanied by an original first edition copy of the book this rug is referenced in, "Navajo Pictorial Weaving 1880-1950" from 1991.
