Featured in this lot is this Navajo Ye Be Chei woven rug circa 1970's. The rug features a wonderfully and professionally crafted wool construction with a total of four Yei figures showing coloration of light gray with Yei figurals with coloration of blue, red, white, yellow, brown, and maroon. The Yei Be Chei dancers are the human impersonators who perform the ceremonies. The Yei Be Chei weavings present the dancers as they dance, perform, and enact the ceremony of the Yeis. Ceremonies are performed to either attract or exorcise effects to The People. Yei is the Navajo name for a deity or a holy one. The Yeis are woven facing outward. They are usually depicted with long bodies and skirts and hold sacred plants or symbols. The condition of this Navajo rug is well preserved with some damage tot he weave in some places but otherwise is well preserved. The measurements of this Navajo rug is 57" x 28". The thread count is 70 threads per square inch.
