Navajo Weaving. 6'8" x 4'7". J. B. Moore designed Storm pattern from the Crystal weaving area. All handspun, natural wool (except for some of the black). Unusual figural elements. Circa 1925. NOTE: Included with this lot is a 7 1/2" x 9 1/2" black & white photo of an outside portal of El Alisal, the home built by Charles F. Lummis between 1896 and 1910 on the West bank of Arroyo Seco in NE Los Angeles. Lummis (1859-1928) was a U.S. journalist and Indian rights activist. When he dies in 1928, he left a legacy of Indian lore and photography and El Alisal was preserved as the home for the Historical Society of So. CA, operating independently until 2002, when it was merged into the Autry National Center. The J.B. Moore storm pattern weaving is clearly visible in the lower right hand corner of the photo when it was on display during an exhibition at El Alisal.
