This is an exceptional large early circa 1900 Navajo Native American Indian rug with an excellent Two Grey Hills pattern from the Toadlena and Two Grey Hills Trading Post. The rug shows a fine soft tightly woven 100% wool construction with natural vegetable dyes having a grey / brownish background with the iconic Two Grey hills central pattern of stepped diamonds with a serrated like outer edge being outlined in black / dark brown with a cream / tan more natural center along with red and grey cross like sections. Outside of the iconic central medallion shows an intricately detailed tan / cream natural pattern that truly sets the rug off. The background has a heathered like look, a true attribute to this pieces early handmade and hand dyed authentic age. The Two Grey Hills pattern was started in circa 1900-1914 by George Bloomfield and Ed Davis at the Toadlena and Two Grey Hills Trading Post. This example is thought to be of an early 1900 age from the Two Grey Hills Trading Post. This large Navajo woven rug still has a wonderful look and would very beautifully compliment the modern Western aesthetic. The rug shows signs of use with a slightly frayed outer edge on the left and slight worn spots as shown in the pictures, but overall the piece displays very well. The rug is naturally a greyish color with age giving it a greyish-brown coloring as shown from the different picture examples in different lighting. The rug measures 86"x53" (7 foot 2 inches by 4 foot 5 inches).
