Navajo Third Phase Chief's Revival Blanket c. 1900
This is an exceedingly rare original authentic Navajo Native American Indian Third Phase Chief’s Blanket. The 3rd Phase Chief’s Revival weaving dates to circa 1900-1910 and shows an incredibly tight knot with bright mineral dyes in red, black, white, grey, and light blue/grey. The rug was authenticated and appraised by Medicine Mane Gallery. The rug is from the ex. Collection of Dr. Knobloch of Savannah, Georgia, who owned it approximately 50 years. Dr. Knobloch died April 8, 2013 at 97 years of age. The piece shows a large size with excellent condition and has the unique third phase Chief’s blanket pattern with banded white and black lines with three sets of diamond/half diamond patterns. Early to Mid 20th Century rug. Chief’s Patter Blankets are of the most desired patterns with circa 19th Century examples commanding over 1.5 million at auction. Noted archeologist and Navajo weaving authority Joe Ben Wheat once wrote, “The Chief’s blanket is one of the finest achievements in Navajo weaving.” The rug shows one of the finest and tightest weave our company has offered for sale and is accompanied with two pieces of paperwork, provenance including a copy of an email from a previous owner and a gallery tag. Measures overall “x”. Fine condition. Appraised by Medicine Man Gallery with intention to purchase/consign at $7,000 years ago. 51"x 68"
