The lot features a Navajo style hand knotted rug in a rare Third Phase Chief’s Blanket Pattern. Wonderful large size collectible floor covering in a fantastic pattern. The piece shows an excellent design and manufacture with mineral dyed colors in red, white, blue, and black. It features diamond pattern shapes and long black fringe on the corners. Early to Mid 20th Century Chief’s Pattern blankets are of the most desired patterns with circa 19th Century examples commanding over 1.5 million at auction. Noted archeologist and Navajo weaving authority Joe Ben Wheat once wrote, “The Chief’s blanket is one of the finest achievements in Navajo weaving.” This rug measures 84" x 55.5" and is in good condition.
