Navajo Teec Nos Pos Figural Rug c. 1890-1910
Featured in this lot is this Navajo Teec Nos Pos figural rug circa 1890-1910. The rug features a wonderfully and professionally crafted wool construction that shows a tight weave and lazy lines throughout the piece. Uniquely this Teec Nos Pos rug shows two figurals with stepped black hair and box-like heads with feathers decorating these figures and wearing traditional colored clothings with greasy yellow, green, red, light brown, a little darker brown, and orange coloration. The border is decorated with beige, white, and black coloration with chevrons inside the black band. The rug is expertly woven in a tradition Teec Nos Pos design and captures the heart of why these are extremely sought after in the industry of collecting Navajo rugs. The Teec Nos Pos Navajo rugs show a substantial influence from designs of Oriental origin. These bold, exciting and elaborate rugs are always surrounded by a wide border or borders of different Oriental motifs. The elaborate centers are of stylized feathers and arrows, steps and angular hooks extended from points of diamonds and triangles. Many different brightly colored yarns are used in these weavings. The condition of this rug shows some damage to one side of the rug with a moderate size tear and some fraying to the weave of the rug. The measurements of this Navajo rug is 60 1/2" x 42 1/2". The tread count of this rug is 270 threads per square inch.
