For your consideration is this beautiful and vibrant hand-woven Navajo Ganado wool rug. This rug has a tag on the back with the weaver's name, Nellie Becenti, of Standing Rock, New Mexico. According to her obituary, Nellie Becenti was born May 19, 1925, in Standing Rock and died July 16, 2008, in Gallup. A rancher's wife, "her pride was her sheep; she earned income for her rug weaving abilities. She processed her own wool by carding, spinning and dyeing her own wool..." Becenti was featured in a book titled, "Weaving a World: Textiles and the Navajo Way of Seeing"--Willinik, Zolbrod. This rug is believed to have been woven in the 1980's and is Becenti's take on the classic Ganado rugs. It features red inside of blue stepped central diamonds on a bright yellow field. There are black and white hooked geometric designs in each corner. The rug has a double border of white and beige with stepped pyramids. It is finished off with a tan selvedge and tan and blue tassels. This rug is in excellent condition and is simply beautiful. Measures 23.5" x 42".
