Navajo Klagetoh Wool Trading Post Rug c. 1920-1930
The lot features a truly rare authentic original Navajo Native American Indian wool rug in a rare Klagetoh pattern dating to circa 1920’s to 1930’s. The Klagetoh pattern, like the Ganado pattern was fathered by Lorenzo Hubbell and is located just south of Ganado, AZ. This example, which dated to circa 1920’s to 1930’s shows a nice tight hand knotted finely spun churro wool in bright aniline natural dyes. This example shows a grey heathered background with central diamond medallions with unique stepped whimsical design in cream / white, red and black / brown. The outside border, which shows three layers, shows a stepped storm design in black / brown, grey, and Ganado red. The rug does show some slight loss to the weave at the outer edge, but overall is in good to fair condition and is a rare authentic example. Measures overall 60.5"x39.5".
