Navajo Klagetoh Trading Post Wool Rug c. 1980's
Featured in this lot is a Navajo Klagetoh Trading Post wool rug circa 1980s. The rug features a wonderfully and professionally crafted tightly woven wool construction. The rug features a central medallion that shows off white, black, and red coloration set to a grey field. The border of the rug shows stepped decoration with geometric triangles in the corners of the rug. Klagetoh is located just south of Ganado and 10 miles north of Wide Ruins. The English translation is “hidden springs”. The Klagetoh weaving is very similar to the Ganado rugs, but with a predominantly gray background instead of the Ganado’s red. Some experts do not consider Klagetoh a specific regional rug but a sub-type of Ganado. The measurements of this rug are 39" x 26 1/2". The thread count is 462 threads per square inch.*
