Navajo Jack Black Kneeling Maiden Pottery c. 1989
Featured in this lot is this "Kneeling Maiden" pottery vessel from Navajo artist Jack Black, circa 1989. The vessel shows a wonderfully and professionally crafted pottery vessel featuring a woman kneeling with a ceramic pot and impression construction to create the decoration. Jack Black was a well-regarded Native American artist, a member of the Navajo tribe, and a skilled potter. Black’s artwork has a unique style and his subject matter usually includes stylized Native American people in various actions of everyday life. When Black died in 2002, all of his potter’s molds were destroyed, making his existing works more rare and valuable. The condition of this pottery vessel is good, with slight scuff marks to the top of the face of the vessel. The measurements of this pottery vessel are 18 1/4" x 3 1/2" x 19".
