Navajo Ganado Wool Rug from Hubbell c. 1900-1920
This is an excellent authentic original Navajo Native American Indian Ganado pattern wool rug from the renowned Hubbell Trading Post dating to circa 1900-1920’s. The Ganado style of weaving was established by Lorenzo Hubbell in the late 19th Century and was from Ganado, Arizona. The rug exemplified the rich “Ganado Red” coloring and was accented by strong central diamond and triangle symbols along with hook patterns, simple diagonals, clouds and stair designs. Noted weavers included Sadie Curtis, Ruby Hubbard, Sarah Tisi and Elverna Vanwinkle. The rug shows a soft finely spun churro wool with all natural aniline dyes in colors such as black, tan, Ganado Red, brown, yellow, grey, and orange. The rug was likely sold at the Hubbell Trading Post in the early 1900’s. This is truly one of the finest rugs we have offered for sale showing bright coloring, a tight weave and outstanding pattern. Other rugs with a similar high quality and age as this are often priced between $15,000-$20,000. The rug measures overall 92" by 47".
