A great example of a large homespun Navajo textile. The design features a large, colorful Cornstalk Yei Tree of Life figure. At the base the bird-filled Cornstalk is a man with a rifle, standing by his horse, and a woman leading a horse. Above them, on either side of the cornstalk, are pairs of birds, cows, rabbits, single birds, smoking squirrels (or maybe they’re playing the flute), more rabbits, and deer at the top. A fantastic pictorial weaving, with brightly colored figures and a great representation of true southwestern folk art. Excellent original condition. 60" x 80". Circa 1930s-40s.
From a noted Santa Fe Collection.
