This is a Navajo Native American Indian wool trade rug from the town of Chinle at the mouth of Canyon de Chelly. The rug is from circa 1930-1940 and shows an excellent and rare finely woven pattern. The Chinle style was developed by Mary Cabot Wheelwright and Cozy McSparron, a trader at Chinle. The piece shows a dark brown, cream, and red border with traditional geometric alternating cream or white/red and grey/brown diamonds. Wonderful early rare textile. Measures 67.25"x43.25"
