Featured in this lot is a Navajo banded Chinle Trading Post rug, circa 1970s. The rug features a wonderfully and professionally crafted wool construction. The rug features light orange, dark orange, off white, and light brown coloration and shows bands with spaced bands of geometric patterns throughout. This regional Navajo Rug style is named for the town of Chinle at the mouth of Canyon de Chelly. The Chinle style was developed by Mary Cabot Wheelwright and Cozy McSparron, a trader at Chinle. They sought to revive weaving using classic period designs with vegetal dyes. The Chinle characteristics are horizontal bands containing Chevrons, Chinle Stars, Squash Blossoms and Diamonds in muted colors of gold, green, tan, ivory and pink. The overall condition of this Chinle rug is good with no obvious signs of damage. The measurements of this rug are 41"L x 29"W. The thread count is 240 threads per square inch.*
