THIS LOT HAS BEEN WITHDRAWN FOR THE FOLLOWING REASON:
Our consignor made a concerted effort to collect material from Indian Agent Thomas Downs including purchasing significant material out of auction from the house he built in Conners, Indiana. This collection of Downs material was intended to be offered as one unit in our sale and was unintentionally split up. Because of this, these lots will be withdrawn. (Lots 743, the hat in Lot 1035, Lot 845 and Lot 825) These lots will be regrouped properly in the next sale.

Photograph measures 7”x 5” and 10” x 8” on grey matte. Low to medium contrast and focus is sharp. Some wear on the photo, there is some fading on the left side from exposure to light. Little wear on matte’s corners. A group of Native Americans and Euro-Americans pose for a photograph. Two of the Native men have medals either pinned or around their necks. Indian peace medals served the purpose of symbolic peace between Native and Euro-Americans, usually presented at ceremonies. The U.S. Government produced peace medals from 1789 to 1889.
