Offered to you in this lot is an ancient Native American Indian projectile spear point. The point is knapped of rich black obsidian, with semi-translucent grey showing up around the thin edges, when held up to a light source. The spear point originates from the late archaic period to the early woodland period of 3000 BC - 800 AD. Obsidian was a prestigious trade good, found as a raw material in regions with a more recent volcanic past - namely, the western United States. The point is stemmless - However showing evidence of a more prominent base. The point shows good condition overall. The piece measures 8" long, 2 3/8" wide, and 3/4" thick.
