Native American Plains Indian Copper Ceremonial Sundance Placque. The Sun Dance or Sundance is a a religious ceremony practiced by a number of native American & First Nations peoples, primarily those of the Plains Nations. Each tribe has its own distinct practices and ceremonial protocols. The piercing of skin on the chest or back for the men and arms for the women are a few. As depicted in this placque the hanging of the body by the skin is shown in the sketch. These ceremonies are now closed to non-Native Americans viewing. Measures approx. 9 1/2'' x 7''.
