Native American Ceremonial Hand Painted Cow Skull
This genuine cow skull was hand painted by a Native American, just like those used on reservations for ceremonial occasions. The skull prominently displays a large hand print in russet red right on the forehead. This was made from powder left over from a pipe. The hand represents the sun dancers touching the skull on their way out of the sun dance circle. On one side is a yellow sun symbol. It represents the hot sun that the dancers dance in for four days and nights without food or water. On the other side is a group of blue dots and wavy lines, representing rain and water, which give the dancers a blessing from the heat The horns are black, with rope tied to each. The skull is in very good condition, and has all the natural wear and cracking one would expect. The dimensions are 23" x 23" x 8". There is some rope on back for hanging on a wall. This is a terrific find for any collector of Native American items, or anyone who wants that Native / Western look in their home.
