#1491174 'M1A1 Carbine' Post war refurbished at a Government Arsenal and converted to the M1A1 Model in the early 50’s. Carbines being sent to Government Arsenals after the Korean war for refurbishing, were not unusual. However, not that many Postal Meter Carbines were produced (6.8% of the total production). Even fewer were refurbished to M1A1’s. Has several post war upgrades. Correct and original M1A1 folding stock with the "OI" stamp inside the barrel channel (indicating Overton-Inland). Inland subcontracted S.E. Overton of South Haven, MI, for the manufacture of all of their M1A1 stocks the inside of the buttplate has the correct drawing number "B257614" and a circled asterisk marking followed by "10". The oiler is on the backside of the cheek piece, the leather on the cheek piece has been replaced. No cartouches observed, 4 rivet handguard, Parkerized finish. Inland barrel dated 5-43 with flaming ordnance bomb, National Postal Meter receiver with 1st block, serial number: 1,450,000 - 1,159,999 | February, 1943 - September, 1943. Type III rear sight stamped " 7160060 I.R.Co, (International Register Co.), Hammer, type III, stamped "AM B" (Art Metal Works Newark, NJ), Type IV rotary safety marked "M" in a horseshoe. (Mc Cullough Co.) Type III barrel band stamped "D" inside diamond (Made as a replacement part by Donaldson Company Inc, St Paul MN, June 1944-Apr 1945.) Type III magazine catch stamped "M". Correct USGI green web sling dated "12-61". One 15 rd magazine marked "IA", Inland Division of General Motors . Bore is excellent/bright, parkerized finish is very good with minor scratches/scuffs, wood is very good+.
