<B><I>National Intelligencer</B></I></B></I> <B>- Two 1860 Washington Newspapers</B></I> with Abraham Lincoln content. The <I>Intelligencer</B></I> was the dominant paper in the U.S. Capitol for many years. These large format (21.5" x 26") papers are each four pages in length, disbound, and in about fine condition with some toning and multiple folds. <BR><B>August 18, 1860</B></I> - A page one, column one article titled "SPEECH OF MR. LINCOLN" gives an account of an extemporaneous speech made by Lincoln to some friends in Springfield, Illinois. What's interesting about it is that Lincoln states (before being elected for his first term) that he did not plan to run for a second term. From the article, "...the intimation it makes that Mr. Lincoln, if elected, will not be a candidate for a second term of Presidential service. We should also not omit to point the attention of our readers to the fact that Mr. Lincoln does not expect that his accession to power, if he should prove successful in the pending contest. will restore peace and quite to the country... he frankly predicts that '<I>four years hence</B></I>' they will be called to pay to '<I>the next man who is the representative of the truth on the questions which now agitate the public mind</B></I>' the same testimony which they now bear to him, and they will be called to '<I>fight</B></I>' for their cause then as they fight for it now..." <BR><B>December 4, 1860</B></I> - Much reaction from the South to the election of Lincoln including the Proclamation of the Governor of Louisiana and the official vote of Virginia. <BR><BR><b>Shipping:</b> Flat Material, Small (<a target="_blank" href="http://www.heritageauctions.com/common/shipping.php">view shipping information</a>)
