National Bank Note Design. This lot was last offered in the Lyn Knight March 2001 auction. It consists of a one page drawing of a proposed National Bank Note design, a fallen apart aged envelope with "National Currency & Treasury Notes - U.S. 1860 Domestic" written on it, one page written in ink titled "National Currency", which transcribes the obligation clause and the counterfeiting clause that is found on the back of Nationals and a two-sided holographic page that states at the beginning...
"The general idea is to have pictorial designs representing great events in American history, or of prominent epochs in American progress."
The letter continues to discuss geometric lathework, letter work and a general bank title layout for National Bank Notes. There is not a signature, but possibly someone in the Treasury Department was putting down his thoughts concerning the future design of National Bank Notes.
