National Arms Number One Single Shot Derringer
First produced by Moore and than by National from 1865 to 1870, with total quantity estimated at 6,000 equally divided between the two companies. This example was manufactured by National with the top of the barrel marked "NATIONAL ARMS CO. BROOKLYN, N.Y." and the underside marked "PAT FEB 24 1863". Half-moon blade front and hammer notch rear sights. The brass frame features a broad scroll engraving on a punch dot background with a floral design around the hammer. The barrel has wedges of scrollwork at the breech and a star and arrow engraving on both sides. It has a serrated spur trigger and hammer, with the grip area having three checkered panels.

Very good. The barrel has a smooth gray patina with traces of original blue finish in the protected areas. The frame has a fine aged brass patina. The engraving is clear and crisp.
