National .41 caliber derringer resembling Colt #2. Blue and gold finish, original to the period checkered ivory grips with odd small block letter address and stamped in large handheld die stamps “Pat 1864” onbackstrap. The barrel address is of a style we have never viewed on another National with small block letters that are in different sizes. The barrel shows a coating of lacquer that has been brushed on and traces of bluebeneath. The frame shows traces of gold underneath this brushed-on lacquer also. The checkered ivory grips are very good showing some natural aging and fit impeccably and are high quality. The action is good, interioris good. An odd derringer from an old Eastern collection that may have been an experimental of some type. Serial #4796. Est: $900 - $1,800
