Explorer, businessman, bureaucrat, vigilante, and historian (1832–1911) who was a member of the infamous Montana Vigilantes and explored regions of what would become Yellowstone National Park. Signed book: Vigilante Days and Ways, Vols. I and II. Later printing. NY: D. D. Merrill, 1893. Hardcover, 5.5 x 7.75, 426 and 485 pages. Signed and inscribed on the first free end pages of both volumes in pencil, "Presented to R. J. Williams By the Author, N. P. Langford, at St. Paul, August 3/05." Each page is also signed at the top in pencil with a presumed later ownership signature, "R. W. Garland." In very good to fine condition, with cracking to the front inner hinge of each volume, wear and soiling to the covers, and worn spine ends.
