Nathaniel Everett Green was a Bristol born artist who married an Elizabeth Goold of Cork in 1847. They settled in St. John's Wood, London. He exhibited frequently in oil and watercolour at the Royal Academy among other galleries. His large family led him to the teaching profession where his reputation led him to Balmoral in 1880 where Her Majesty the Queen, the Princess of Wales and Princess Beatrice were among his pupils. Green was a founding member of the British Astronomical Association (BAA). He built a telescope in 1859 and produced drawings of Mars in 1877. A crater on the planet is named in his honour.
