Width 7 1/2 in.

The broad, low-contoured vessel has an upright, forward-facing human head rendered in the round in lieu of one spout. A painted bib-like shape with square hatching below the head and the opposite spout defines the space of the figure. The large remaining spaces on either upper surface show profile mythologized monkeys surrounded by disembodied symbolic emblems. A band of freely rendered alternating pairs of reddish and black rectangular shapes lies along the bend of the vessel's profile. The vessel is chipped at the top of the spout, but otherwise good, with no waxing. A small spot was drilled in the bottom to take a clay sample.

Provenance
Sotheby's, New York: sale 7902, 15 May 2003, lot 271, p.182
