Narrative of the Loss Ship Earl of Eldon by Fire. In the hand of T. T. Ashden/Madras Artillery and Signed by him. Dated January 30th, 1835. FOLIO: 12 pages in bold, legible hand totalling app. 3000 words. Some slight soiling and wear on the leaves. Encased in a Contemporary Fine Clamshell Case in deep brown cloth with gilt decorations and leather title lables. An Attractive Piece. About Fine, Leaves Very Good. The ship was lost to fire while enroute back to England with 45 Passengers, the crew and 600 tons of Cotton which ignited spontaneously. They were 13 days adrift in the Indian Ocean before landing on an obscure Island in the Macarenes. Unrecorded by Huntress.
