called Madame Sans Gêne. (No Bothers). Sans Gene is a semi-
legendary figure, a laundress who married one of Napoleon?s
marshals and became a duchess. Mme LeFebvre, Duchess of
Danzig never lost her ordinary ways and cared little for society
and the aristocracy. She lived 1755-1835 and was re-incarnated
as the heroine of a novel and Sardou, an opera by Giordano and
films starring Gloria Swanson and Sophia Loren.
<p>This plate dates from her time as a stage character. The rim
is decorated in the style of the First French Empire with gold
crowns and Ns.
<p>Measures 9-1/2 inches.
<p>Very good condition. No chips, cracks, dings or other
damage aside from some gold wear.
<p>Made early 20th C. Possibly German manufacture?see
photo of mark.
