Original printed broadside in French entitled "Gendarmerie d'Ordonnance of the Emperor," one page, 16.25 x 19.75, October 17, 1806. An announcement headed "New Notice to Young Men," issued by the Prefect of Vaucluse, which consists of nine terms of their current engagement, in part (translated): "1. That the duration of the engagement that the young men admitted into the Gendarmes d'Ordonnance contract for will include only the campaign, and that they will be free to retire when it is concluded. 2. That they will receive pay from the Government, but a modest pay. 3. That those who wish to continue a military career, after the disbanding of the Corps, may hope to be placed in the army as officers, if they show themselves worthy of being so rewarded. 4. That those who desire only to prove their devotion to His Majesty, by serving in the campaign near his person, will be able, if the Corps is retained, to retire at the end of the war." Framed to a slightly larger size. In very good to fine condition, with areas of light staining.
