LS in French, signed “Np,” one page, 7 x 9, February 24, 1810. Letter to the Duke of Feltre, minister of war. In full (translated): “I ask you to send me the note of the division and brigadier generals and colonels who are employed without a decree by me for perusal. Some of them were during the war with Germany and in particular during the invasion of the English; and present me a paper on the general officers of France. On this I pray that God may keep you in his holy protection.” In fine condition, with central vertical and horizontal folds (vertical fold passing between the letters of his signature). The War of the Fifth Coalition had come to a conclusion just a few months earlier in October 1809. The conflict put Napoleon’s French Empire in opposition against a coalition of the United Kingdom and Austrian Empire, and Napoleon emerged victorious. An interesting military letter from a period of Napoleon’s greatest influence.
