DS in French, boldly signed “NP,” one page, 7 x 4, dated January 7, 1811. An untranslated military assignment. Nicely double cloth-matted with a color portrait and framed to an overall size of 20.25 x 12.25. In fine, crisp condition. This military assignment came as tensions increased in the alliance between France and Russia which, one year later, would lead to Napoleon’s disastrous invasion of Russia. Accompanied by a letter of authenticity from James Spence.
