Napoleon and his Family. Group of four
Napoleon and his Family. Group of four items: 1) D.S., July 11, 1811, as Emperor, during one of the "peaceful" years of his rule. Signed "Np," a customary signature of this period, promoting Brig. Gen. Palumbini to Division General. Also promotes two other Generals, naming Col. Herculei second in command of the "Napoleonic Dragoons." Unusual watermark on 8 x 12 sheet of a crowned Imperial Eagle. Very fine. 2) Signature of his older brother Joseph Bonaparte, King of Spain, on card, as "Le Cte. de Survilliers," the name he used in America after Napoleon's fall. Very good. 3) Brief A.L.S. of brother Lucien Bonaparte, signed as "Prince de Canino," while held as prisoner of England on his way to America, having been exiled from France. Somewhat light; stains. 4) Brief A.L.S. of his nymphomaniac sister, Pauline Bonaparte Borghese, Oct. 26, 1811. "Good for 3 units of 1,000 francs collected for the gift and for publication next January...." A bit light, one corner lacking. Pauline was a great beauty and was the model for sculptor Antonio Canova's "Venus."
