Napoléon (Films Abel Gance, 1927). French Double Grande (63" X 94"). "Napoléon" is an epic (1927) silent French film directed by Abel Gance that tells the story of the rise of Napoleon I of France. Ahead of its time in its use of handheld cameras and editing, many scenes were hand tinted or toned. Gance had intended the final reel of the film to be screened as a triptych via triple projection, or Polyvision. Planned as the first of six movies about Napoleon Bonaparte, Gance realized after the completion of the film that the costs involved would make this impossible. It was first released in a gala premiere at the Paris Opéra in April 1927. This gorgeous poster with art by George Scott (1873-1943) is signed within the lower panel and dated 1926. The magnificent stone litho image is of the title character played by Albert Dieudonné. This poster is one of the few known to exist for the first release of this historic film and is a magnificent museum piece. The poster has minor pin holes in the corners, minor cross fold separations, and a few background spots. It has been linen backed. Very Fine on Linen.

Shipping: Rolled (view shipping information)
