Lot of 2 original handwoven Nantucket baskets. 7" Lightship Vase (with glass vase inside) handwoven by Arlene C. Hardy, comes with Certificate of Authenticity from Nantucket Lightship Basket Makers & Merchants Association. Second basket is a backpack-style basket, a uniquely Adirondack tradition, originally made and worn by Native Americans, wilderness guides, and hikers. The piece is a hand-woven, VINTAGE FISH BASKET, barely used, also purchased in Nantucket over 40 years ago. Original leather hanging loop, with high quality, heavy duty backpack straps. Both baskets have a solid wood piece in the bottom, adding to their durability and strength, something Nantucket Baskets are known for. Nantucket Lightship Baskets have 4 unique characteristics that set them apart and account for their wild popularity and value: the use of rattan, the wooden bottoms, the use of molds and a special quality combination of beauty and workmanship. Known for the quality, history and beauty, authentic Nantucket Lightship Baskets are highly sought after and hold their value.
