Nantaje & other Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient; group of cabinet card photos and a letter involving one of the other ten Apache Scouts that received the Congressional Medal of Honor. "Born in the Arizona Territory, Nantaje (Nan-ta-he) was one of ten Apache Indian scouts hired by the U.S. Army for Lieutenant Colonel George Crook's expedition against renegades in Arizona following the surrender of Cochise in late 1872." (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nantaje). One photo's inscription reads: "U.S. Gov. Indian Scout, 1885", with subject matter of Nantaje holding a 45-20 trapdoor Springfield. The other photo's inscription reads: "Indian Buck so-called in his best suit of clothes called a Gee-String". The unidentified possibly Apache man is pictured holding a 1873 Springfield carbine and is likely one of the other 10 Native American scouts. Photographer's info is on the reverse of both photos: Beuhman & Hartwell photo, Tucson, A.T. The photos are in generally good condition with a few chips and peeling corners; please inspect, see photo. Includes a 2-page military letter where Chiquito, one of the other 10 Native American medal-winners is discussed by First Lt. James Watson, serving under Crook, c.1885. Letter is delicate to the touch especially at creases, in generally good condition with minor perforations along creases. Photos with backings measure 4.25x6.5", letter measures 7.7x9.8". See photo.
