Nancy Olson Coat from Force of Arms
This WWII military overcoat was worn by the character “Lt. Eleanor MacKay,” portrayed by actress Nancy Olson, in the 1951 motion picture, “Force Of Arms.” The double-breasted coat with vertical pockets at the waist is constructed of beige cotton with buttons down the front, at the cuffs, and back of the collar. The interior of the garment has the original Warner Brothers label sewn inside with the actress name “Nancy Olson” and production date “3-26-51” handwritten in black ink. Ms. Olson wore or carried this garment in numerous scenes during the first part the film, notably in scenes shared with “Sgt. Joe ‘Pete’ Peterson” (William Holden), as the two struggle to find romance together against the backdrop of wartime Italy. The coat is missing the original belt and button-on hood, but in very good vintage condition. Accompanied by a letter of authenticity from the costume house.
