Nameplate BOBS. Ex 0-4-0ST with 13 x 18 cyl...
Nameplate BOBS. Ex 0-4-0ST with 13" x 18" cylinders and 3' 1" wheels. Built by Hudswell Clarke in 1901 and delivered on 31st May of that year to Staveley Coal & Iron Co. Ltd., Staveley as No 593 and named BOBS. Received a re-build around 1924 whereupon it moved to British Soda Co. Ltd., Sandbach, Cheshire (a subsidiary of Staveley) where it spent the rest of its working life until scrapping, on site, around 1962. Named after British Boer War (1899 - 1902) Hero Lord Roberts - nicknamed "Bobs" by the British Press. A remarkable survivor from such an early engine. It was originally chromed and lost most, if not all during its life. The previous owner had this plate re-chromed when he bought it from the scrapyard. Would look extremely nice either removed and polished or re-chromed again. It has been left for the purchaser preference.
