Named 2nd Model WWII Era German Navy Funeral Dagger, belonging to Lt. zFK-R Belz, dated Febr. 1943, with 10'' double fuller double-edged blade, gilt naval crossguard and pommel, and wire-wrapped black funerary handle. Lt. Belz entered the Navy on Dec. 1, 1939, rising to the rank of Lieutenant on April 1, 1941. Family information states that Belz was killed in action Feb. 19, 1943, while serving aboard a U-boat. The center symbol on the inscription is believed to be the Runic symbol for death. Black leather presentation case with unmarked exterior shows gold incise border; interior is lined with royal blue padded silk and royal blue velvet; interior edges of the case are covered in white leatherette with lower edge stamped in gold ''Rd No 440297''. Condition is excellent with minor thinning to gilt and very minor carbon spotting to bright portions of blade. A nice example of a seldom seen posthumous presentation dagger. Est.: $1,800-$2,400.
