-This is a large master cylinder bottle for Youatts Gargling Oil. It measures 9” tall and 3.5” at the base. It has an applied top and several bubbles appear throughout the glass. There are some scratches on the bottle, many of which appear on the lip. There are also a few small chips.
Youatts Gargling Oil was produced from 1854 to 1863 by Comstock & Brother. Named after British veterinarian William Youatts who most likely sold the cure to the Comstocks. The medicine was originally used for veterinary purposes but crossed over into the medical world. But the Comstocks often feuded, and several of these bottles were reported to have been dumped in the St. Lawrence River, both out of spite and the bitter taste. There have been other sales of smaller embossed bottles of Youatts Gargling Oil, but only a few sales records have been record regarding a bottle of this size. HKA#64919
