The Distinguished Collection Formed by W.J. Holliday. Priced copy. Published in 1954. 266 pages. Parke-Bernet Galleries, Inc. was holding a three day public auction sale. Blue, hard cover book-like catalog, no dust jacket. Some of the items that were being auctioned off were from the 1850s through the early 1900s. Folding maps, books, newspapers, journals and photographs which were sometimes included with certain lots. Some of the more expensive items were: Gunn's Gold Mines Hand-Book and Map at $1100.00. Three Years Among the Indians and Mexicans, a book by Gen. Thomas James. This catalog says that that book was "exceedingly rare" and priced at $2600.00. There were no actual photos of items. Sotheby's purchased The Parke-Bernet Galleries in 1964 [Ref: http://encyclopedia2.thefreedictionary.com/Parke-Bernet+Galleries]. Until then it was the U. S.'s largest auction house [Ref: http://research.frick.org/directoryweb/]. Overall great condition.
