NWC Native Carved Sterling Silver Eagle Bracelet by Barry Wilson Haisla - Kemano, B.C.
A little information about the artist: Barry was born at Kitamaat Village, British Columbia in 1952. He is from the Killerwhale clan of the Haisla (Xanaksiyala) Nation. At the age of five he began carving under the tutorage of his grandfather, Gordon Robertson, a Chief and carver, and his uncle, Henry Robertson. After graduating from school he followed in his uncle's footsteps by teaching and working as an artist. His brothers, Derek and Gary, are also well known artists. Although Barry concentrates on the art of jewellery making he also carves horn, bone, ivory, antler and wood. He has mastered the techniques of painting, screen printing, drum crafting and the making of bentwood boxes. In 1988 and 1989, Barry was awarded First Place for Original Design Jewellery in the Native Arts and Crafts Show in Vancouver. From 2004 to 2006, Barry helped his uncle Henry Robertson oversee the recreation of the nineteenth-century G’psgolox pole that was made for the country of Sweden as part of a repatriation deal between Sweden and Canada. Barry was also featured in the NFB documentary 'Totem: The Return of the G’psgolox Pole'.
