NV - c1900-1920 - Miss Mackey Snapshot :
A candid snapshot of a young woman standing in profile in front of a modest wooden building facing on a dirt street. She wears a long dark skirt and white blouse. On the reverse in period writing, in pencil, is “Miss Mackey.” It is unknown if this pretty woman is related to Clarence Mackay, the son of Nevada’s famed John Mackay of Comstock fame. Clarence was born in 1874 and married Katherine Duer “Kitty” Mackay in 1898, a fabulous beauty and socialite. They had 3 children—a son John W., youngest daughter Ellin (who married Irving Berlin) and another daughter whose name we could not find—before she left him in 1914 and ran off with another man. Clarence met Anna Case, another beauty, in 1916, but they did not marry until 1931 following the death of Katherine. They had no children together. Photo measures 2.25 x 4,” has two small tears into the picture at the left top and center, a crease across the lower right corner, and is water or burn stained at top right.
