This lot of 37 samples orginates from the Bonanza Constock Lode - the richest historical producer in the state of Nevada. Discovered in 1859, events in this district influenced both the growth of San Francisco and the development of the Silver State. Yet within 2 decades these rich ores were played out, with peak production in 1877 having total value of approximatley $270 million in gold and $400 million in silver (2007 inflation adjustment). This lot of samples illustrates many of the textural and mineralogical characteristics of this world class deposit, with ore minerals including argentite, polybasite, stephanite, galena, sphalerite, chalcopyrite, and pyrite. Notable pieces within this group include several pieces of historical AQ core through the host diorite in additon to a number of slabbed and polished samples nicely illustrating the banded nature of the vein material constituting this wealth beneath Virginia City.
