Lot of 11 Items. 1) Cabinet card portrait of young lady with "Maggie" on a pin visible on her collar. "John S. Noe, Virginia City, Nev." printed along bottom edge. Measures 4" x 6", on maroon matte 4 1/2" x 6 1/2". Image has high contrast and good focus. Printed on reverse is "John S. Noe, Photographer. No. 82 South C Street. Virginia City, Nev." Noe was likey at this address c1886 (Ref: Mautz, 1997, pp. 320]. "Maggie Gordon" written in pen on reverse. 2) Cabinet card portrait of young woman standing next to floral displays on pedestal. Measures 4" x 5 1/2", on light matte measuring 4 1/4 x 6 1/2". Medium contrast and sharp focus. "C.A. Marston, Photographer, Carson City, Nevada" printed within ornate border on reverse. Born in Massachusetts, had several galleries in San Francisco. "Directories show that while he had his gallery in Carson City, 1886, he was Deputy Collector of U.S. Internal Revenue in San Francisco, 1885-86 [Ref: Mautz, 1997, pp. 122]. "Clara Piper, 1904?" hand written in pen on reverse, likely written at a later date than the actual image. 3) CDV of gentleman dressed in a pressed shirt and coat. "David Beverigh, Belmont Nevada" hand-written along bottom edge. Medium contrast with sharp focus, measures 2 1/4" x 4". "H.P. Stimler's Sunbeam Photograph Galler. Main Street, Austin, Nevada. Negatives preserved" printed on reverse. According to Mautz [1997, pp. 320], Stimler was operating his gallery c.1875. 4) Photo postcard. "Citizens of Aurora Cal. 1865. Now Aurora, Nev, Mark Twain in Group" at center top. Image measures 3" x 4", with high contrast and good focus. 5) Commencement exercise program from Virginia High School, 1898. "Gradibus Ascendimus" and "Our Graduating Class" printed on cover above "Virginia High School, Virginia, Nevada." Occurring at Piper's Opera House, page 3 describes the "Programme" while the back cover lists the graduates, the School Trustees, and the Principal. Sutherland Printer, Virginia. In extremely fine condition. 6) Two page letter from the Nevada Department of Public Instruction, dated Carson City, July 12, 1875. The letter describes the apportion of $17,443.91 among the several counties of the State. Page 2 lists the 14 counties, # of children 6-18 years, and the amount to be received. Submitted by Samuel P. Kelly, State Superintendent of Public Instruction. 7) "Program Nevada's Greatest Pioneer Celebration and Points of Interest on The Comstock. Virginia City, Nevada. September 5, 6 and 7, 1936." Softcover, 8 pages, includes many interesting advertisements along with program notes. Measures 6" x 9". 8) Letter to Bullion & Exchange Bank, dated Dec 30, 1897. Measures 6" x 7", bill is for hauling wood to Morgan Mill Empire, signed Wm. McCormick. Stamped "paid" by bank, dated Jan 6, 1898. 9) Letter from "Judges Chamber. United States Circuit Court, District of Nevada. Carson City, dated Dec 16, 1896. Sent to Bullion & Exchange Bank from Thomas S. Hawley, the note asks for purchase of 200 shares of Con. V. & C. and 200 shares of Chollar at current rates. 10) Tag from Shonfield & Cook, Virginia City, N.V. From John B. Luchsinger & Son, Manufacturers of ALL KINDS of FURNITURE, 710 to 718 Minna Street, between 8th AND 9th STS. San Francisco. 11) Receipt "Bought of Gillig, Mott & Co. Importers and Dealers in ... To C.P. Mason, datelined Virginia City, Nev., Oct 15, 1874. Vignette at upper left shows Gillig, Mott & Co., Stoves and Hardware store streetfront, with horse-drawn wagon parked out front. Charges for $41.00 for 2115 yds "Plastering Paper 20."
