The mine was located on the Brunswick ledge. It incorporated on 25 March 1863. No. 24 issued to N. A. Chandler for 10 shares on 10 April by Monroe Thomson, Secretary, and Seth Cook, President. Smaller-sized stock that also has a red, 25 cent, R 48, R 4, Power of Attorney, imperf., revenue stamp affixed on the left. Very good condition. Fred Holabird, who was referencing Myron Angel, wrote "the Brunswick Lode is one mile east of the main Comstock, but considered by many as part of the Comstock, since it is a parallel system. The St. John's claim was first staked on this lode C & C lists it in the Gold Hill District, which is incorrect. The Occidental lode produced just under $1 million. Chandler played an important role in Nevada's history. He took part in the 1860 expedition with Major Ormsby against the Pah-Ute after the burning of William's Station. As a poorly armed group who didn't believe the Indians would fight, they were defeated. Chandler may have been the only member of the Volunteers to survive, which he did by jumping off a cliff into the Truckee River, missing the rocks, and hiding in the River under bushes for hours in the middle of winter. . . . Cook, . . . Was a passenger on the fastest trip over the Sierra from Virginia City to Sacramento on June 20, 1864. They made the trip in 12 hours, 23 minutes and carried the mail. John Skae, later mine superintendent and president of several Comstock mines, was one of the passengers" [Ref: Holabird, The Alexandra Tillson Filer Collection Part III, p. 105, 2000.
