The Tule Canyon district is located 10 miles south of Lida in the Silver Peak Range. Early placer mining was done here by Mexicans while Nevada was part of Mexico. They were followed by Chinese laborers. Because of the scarcity of water in the district, hand placer mining was common until 1933 when the Los Angeles Rock and Gravel Corporation took over.
