GF12 1/2c. Square. Seven Troughs was discovered in 1905. The site is situated in the Stone House mountain range thirty miles west from Lovelock. It got its name from the men who placed seven troughs at nearby springs for watering livestock. The 12 mile Stone House canyon held Vernon at the southern end and Farrell at the northern end. The Seven Troughs Mining District also included the towns of Seven Troughs and Mazuma. A mill was built in Seven Troughs by the Seven Troughs Coalition Mining Co. On July 17, 1912 a devastating flood from "a great water-spout" washed away buildings, mills, and people and left the area desolated and suffering. Property loss was estimated at a quarter million dollars. Though the area never fully recovered from the wake of destruction, the Seven Troughs Mining District produced a million dollars before the flood [Davis, 1991].
