Street Scene Real Photo c.1907; Rawhide, Nevada, Regent Mining District. Fantastic real photo postcard, circa 1907 of early Rawhide, Nevada. “A Team At Rawhide, Nev.” imprinted bottom right along with “Osborn”, the photographer. Mines visible on the hill beyond with a faint headframe at the far top right. Stores pictured include the Palace Café, Home Meat Market, and F. Marks & Co. The wagons are fully loaded with what could be ore sacks. We are guessing that this photo was taken before the disastrous fire of 1908 which took out a large chunk of the town. Rawhide was the epitome of a boom and bust mining town with a population of 8,000 by 1908. The boom, frenzy and bust occurred in a remarkable three year period. According to Paher, the town had over 40 saloons and 125 brokerage offices in 1908. But by the end of 1910, fewer than 500 individuals resided in the town. Nothing remains today at the current townsite and Rawhide qualifies as a true ghost town. The postcard has excellent clarity with a tiny crease at the top right corner. Minimal edge wear.
