Lot of 10. 1) Wells Fargo & Co. Franked cover (face only) addressed to Quong Tang Sing, San Francisco. Chinese characters at left. One green three cent embossed postage stamp at right. Single ring oval Pioche, NV postage seal at right. 2) Three cent stamped cover addressed to Mr. Robert Sander, San Francisco. One single ring Pioche, NV postage seal at right. Ragged bottom. 3) Pioche Consolidated Mining & Reduction Co. unissued bank check ca.1892. Black on pink. 4) A.S. Thompson (General Merchandise) billhead issued Dec. 30, 1902. Folio 469D. 5) Caliente & Pioche R.R. Co. Bank check no. 112 issued Dec. 31, 1907. Signed by E.H. Kent, agent and A.C. Stic, cashier. 6) County Treasurer's Office, Lincoln, County, NV check no. 338 issued Sept. 29, 1864. U/C. Small holes at left. 7) Receipt for $1000 in gold coin issued July 19, 1882. Signed by J.C. Henderson. Single ring "PAID" seal at center. Small vignette at left of native person with gun and cape. 8) Wells Fargo & Company bank check no. 21973 issued Dec. 10, 1884. W.E. Griffin Banker. Signed by J.V. Keeley. One single ring "PAID" seal at center. Endorsed on reverse by W. Culverwell and John Raeder. Green on white. 9) Uncut sheet of three Pioche Mining Co. Bank checks. Unissued. Stubs attached at left, ca.1920s. Pioche was southeastern Nevada's richest mining camp. Only the Comstock lode could rival [Paher, Nevada Ghost Towns and Mining Camps, 1973]. 10) U/I rare bank check with orange RN-D1 imprint. There are thought to be three known. Unlisted in Castenholz. With stub at left. Pioche came to fruition in 1870 and held significant reserves of silver. Pioche at this time was home to 15,000 people and by 1875, 2,000 claims had been staked. Over sixty men were buried in the town's cemetery before the first recorded natural death [Carlson, Nevada Place Names, 1996, p. 191]. This bank check is from the early boom period of Pioche.
